To open Shinedown's second of two shows at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium last week, frontman Brent Smith sang an a cappella cover of the Otis Redding classic "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay."
If you missed the concert, you can watch official video of the performance -- which, judging by the crowd reaction, sounded pretty goosebumps-inducing -- now on YouTube.
In a tweet, Smith explained that he wanted to perform the song in honor of his dad, who was in the audience.
"It was a wink of massive gratitude to him," Smith said. "The day he gave me that Otis Redding cassette, he literally changed my life."
The Nashville show was part of Shinedown's intimate "An Evening with" tour, which wrapped earlier this week. The band will launch a full-scale U.S. tour June 21 in The Woodlands, Texas.
