Grandson releases cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Maria”

Fueled by RamenGrandson has released a cover of the Rage Against the Machine song “Maria.” You can download his bluesy take on the Battle of Los Angeles track now via digital outlets.

Describing his approach to the cover, grandson tweeted, “The intention was to juxtapose a story of Mexican migration/indentured servitude with Delta Deep South American blues, as a commentary on slave labor and the perversion of the American Dream. What’s more American than that?”

The “Maria” cover is also accompanied by a video spliced with audio of President Donald Trump declaring a national emergency to build a wall on the U.S./Mexico border. The video is streaming now on YouTube.

Grandon previously collaborated with Rage guitarist Tom Morello for a remix of the former’s single “Blood // Water.”
