Cantrell revealed the news in an Instagram post, alongside a screenshot of his brief appearance.

“Snuck into a shot or two in the Deadwood movie courtesy of W. Earl Brown,” Cantrell wrote, adding that he’s a “huge fan” of the original series. Brown plays the character Dan Dority on Deadwood, and previously collaborated with Alice for their 2013 mockumentary, AIC23

The musician added that while he was on the Deadwood set, he gave Ian McShane, who plays the foul-mouthed saloon-keeper Al Swearengen, a vinyl copy of the latest Alice in Chains album, Rainier Fog.

“[It] was fun to be in the background watching the professionals do their thing,” Cantrell wrote.

Deadwood: The Movie, which premiered on HBO last Friday, is the long-awaited follow-up to the show, which originally ran from 2004 to 2006.

The critically-acclaimed Western series told a fictionalized story of the real-life Dakota settlement in the 1870s, and included portrayals of historical figures such as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and Wyatt Earp.
