In a statement, frontman Michael Poulsen reveals that “Last Day Under the Sun,” which you can download now via digital outlets, was inspired by Johnny Cash.

“When I read his book, he went through tough times with alcohol and drugs,” Poulsen explains. “He walked into a cave to lay down to die. But he wakes up and feels like he has been given a second chance.”

That message is reflected in the song’s video, which follows a number of people grieving a loss before taking a supernatural turn. You can watch it now on YouTube.

Rewind, Replay, Rebound, the follow-up to 2016’s Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie, is due out August 2. It also features the single “Leviathan.”

Volbeat will be traveling the U.S. this summer as the opening act for Slipknot’s tour, which kicks off July 26 in Mountain View, California.
