Dragons, lasers and fire: Shinedown teases “show of a lifetime” on summer tour

ABC/Randy HolmesShinedown plans to bring all the “bells and whistles” on the band’s summer headlining tour, kicking off Friday night in The Woodlands, Texas.

“We’re bringing dragons, we’re bringing lasers, we’re bringing fire,” frontman Brent Smith tells ABC Radio. “We’re gonna blow some stuff up.”

Smith is confident in his band’s ability to thrill a crowd without all the extra stuff — “Could we…be our own pyro? One thousand percent, we do that all the time,” he declares — but given the opportunity of a big summer run, he’s not wasting his chance to do all he can.

“You really wanna go over the top,” Smith says. “You wanna bring people the show of a lifetime.”

That mentality extends to the construction of the tour’s bill, into which Shinedown put a lot of thought. If you catch the tour, you’ll also see “Ghost” rockers Badflower, who Smith feels has a “fearless sound,” as well as Dinosaur Pile-Up and Broken Hands.

“We wanted to do something that wasn’t necessarily run-of-the-mill, or what people thought or think we should tour with, band-wise,” Smith explains. “At the end of the day, it’s not necessarily about control, it’s just about pushing the envelope and really influencing the audience to newer bands and to newer sounds.”

Shinedown will be touring behind their new album ATTENTION ATTENTION, which features the singles “DEVIL,” “GET UP” and “MONSTERS.”
