The Raconteurs score their first Billboard 200 #1 album with ‘Help Us Stranger’

Third Man RecordsThe Raconteurs have just scored their first Billboard 200 #1 album with Help Us Stranger.

Bouyed by the success of the singles “Sunday Driver,” “Now That You’re Gone” and “Help Me Stranger,” Help Us Stranger moved 88,000 equivalent album units for the week ending June 27, more than 84,000 of which were pure album sales.

White released the album via his Third Man Records, with vinyl album sales accounting for 25,000 units sold — no surprise, considering how much of a vinyl booster White is. Even so, Billboard reports that’s the largest single-week number for vinyl sales in 2019 and the sixth-largest since 1991, when Nielsen Music began tracking sales data.

Help Us Stranger is the first chart-topping album for The Raconteurs, but its lead singer Jack White‘s fourth time atop the Billboard 200 — the previous three trips to number one were as a solo artist.

The Raconteurs have cracked the top ten before, with 2006’s Broken Boy Soldiers and 2008’s Consolers of the Lonely.

The Raconteurs kick off their tour Thursday in Aspen, Colorado, with North American dates scheduled into November.
