Listen to Beck cover Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” with The Bird and the Bee

Steve Granitz/WireImageBeck lends his vocals to a cover of Van Halen‘s “Hot for Teacher,” recorded in collaboration with the duo The Bird and the Bee.

In keeping with the humor of the original 1984 single, Beck provides spoken word interludes throughout the new recording as a substitute teacher named “Mr. Goodbody” instructing the class to turn to page 69 in Moby Dick. Meanwhile, lead vocals are handled by The Bird and the Bee vocalist Inara George.

The “Hot for Teacher” cover is available now for digital download. It will also be included on The Bird and the Bee’s upcoming Van Halen tribute album, due out August 2.

Along with George, The Bird and the Bee also includes producer Greg Kurstin, who previously worked with Beck on 2017’s Colors. Kurstin also produced the new Foo Fighters album Concrete and Gold, and has collaborated with Paul McCartney, Kelly Clarkson, Pink and Sia, among others.

Meanwhile, Beck released a new single called “Saw Lightning” in April. A new album titled Hyperspace is forthcoming.

Beck will launch a co-headlining tour with Cage the Elephant July 11 in Ridgefield, Washington.
