Bush’s Gavin Rossdale teases “heavier,” “wider,” “deeper” new album, “The Mind Plays Tricks on You”

Speaking to ABC Radio, frontman Gavin Rossdale explains he wanted to pursue that direction after listening to a lot of heavier music lately, as well as playing a bunch of metal festivals.

“I’m not a screamer, and I don’t sing like the dog-bark, that stuff, but I do love a lot of the music,” he says. “It’s really fun to play.”

Bush shared the first preview of that new sound with the single “Bullet Holes,” which you can hear in the new movie John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.

“‘Bullet Holes’ is really consistent with the rest of the [record],” Rossdale says. “I still got to sing in my own whatever way, but the music is a little heavier, a little wider, a little deeper.”

For “Bullet Holes,” Bush worked with film composer and Marilyn Manson collaborator Tyler Bates, who also produced a number of songs on The Mind Plays Tricks on You.

“He’s a real composer, and a really good friend,” Rossdale says of Bates. “It was just great and simple and fast, and he’s so talented that you just gotta step your game up and be good.”

The Mind Plays Trick on You, the follow-up to 2017’s Black and White Rainbows, is due out later this year.
