Korn’s Munky leaving Alice in Chains tour ahead of daughter’s birth

Credit: Jimmy FontaineKorn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer is taking a break from the band’s tour with Alice in Chains to be with his family ahead of the birth of his new daughter.

Shaffer will be absent from the road August 6-11. Guitarist J.R. Bareis, who plays in Brian “Head” Welch‘s band Love and Death, will fill in.

“Since our family is waiting for the birth of our daughter, I won’t be performing 8/6-8/11,” Munky says. “I’m going to miss you all very much, but you’re in great hands with our close friend & brother [Bareis] who is filling in for me. Thank you for your understanding & support!”

Korn’s tour with Alice in Chains will run through the rest of August before wrapping up September 4 in Mountain View, California.

Korn’s new album The Nothing arrives September 13.
