Slipknot’s Jim Root and Corey Taylor would’ve “ended up killing each other” if guitarist stayed in Stone Sour

ABC/Randy HolmesSlipknot frontman Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root used to also be in the band Stone Sour together, but Root left the group in 2014 under less-than friendly circumstances. Speaking now with Metal Hammer, Root says that the split was for the best.

“Corey and I are much closer now,” Root explains. “It’s the best thing, me leaving Stone Sour.”

“We would have just ended up killing each other and driving each other crazy,” he continues. “I can’t spread myself that thin.”

Following his departure from Stone Sour, Root said he was “mad” and “hurt” to be cut from the band. Taylor later said that the experience was a “difficult time.”

“I needed it, [Slipknot] needed it and Stone Sour certainly needed it,” Root now says. “I just didn’t have the time to commit that I’d have liked. I think they were tired of my s***ty attitude, that’s for sure.”

Slipknot’s new album We Are Not Your Kind arrives this Friday, August 9.
