ABC/Randy HolmesTom Morello lends his guitar skills to a new cover of the Audioslave song “Like a Stone,” recorded by Dennis Lloyd.
“Dennis Lloyd confided that Audioslave and especially Chris Cornell‘s vocals were very inspiring to him,” Morello says. “I’m happy to have joined him on his beautiful cover of ‘Like a Stone.’ He’s a great new artist and has really done justice to the tune.”
Lloyd is a big fan of Cornell and the grunge era — his single “Nevermind” is named after the classic Nirvana album.
Since Cornell’s death in 2017, Morello and Prophets of Rage have frequently played “Like a Stone” live, often leaving an empty, spotlit microphone as a tribute to the late singer. They’ve also performed it live with vocals from System of a Down‘s Serj Tankian.
