Slayer sponsorship removed from NASCAR race car

Credit: Martin JausllerThe dream of the Slayer-mobile is now dead.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the thrash legends would be sponsoring a car for the Rick Ware Racing NASCAR team. However, that sponsorship has now been pulled due to what a press release describes as “reactionary concerns from other long-time participating sponsors.”

“After nearly 40 years, Slayer apparently remains as terrifying to some as ever,” the press release reads.

As part of the partnership, the Slayer logo was set to adorn the hood of the No. 54 Chevrolet, which was to be driven by NASCAR racer JJ Yeley at Tennessee’s Bristol Motor Speedway during a race this weekend. All Slayer signage has now been removed from the vehicle.

While you won’t be seeing Slayer on the race track, you can still see them live on their final world tour, which wraps up with one last U.S. leg kicking off in November. The group’s final show ever is scheduled for November 30 in Los Angeles.
