Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross to score upcoming Pixar film, “Soul”

Disney/PixarTrent Reznor‘s music has never been exactly family-friendly, but that hasn’t stopped Pixar from hiring the Nine Inch Nails frontman to compose music for its new film.

Along with his frequent collaborator Atticus Ross, Reznor will compose the score to Soul, an upcoming film from the Toy Story animation studio.

Soul stars the voices of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Hamilton‘s Daveed Diggs and The Roots drummer Questlove. Like the previous Pixar film Inside Out did with emotions, Soul will personify the concept of the “soul,” and takes place in “The You Seminar,” a “fantastical place where we all discover our unique personalities.”

According to a press release, Reznor and Ross’ score will “drift between the real and soul worlds.” Soul hits theaters June 19, 2020.

Reznor and Ross recently composed the music for the Netflix film Bird Box. You’ll also hear their work in HBO’s upcoming Watchmen adaptation, which premieres in October.

Pixar is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
