CHVRCHES receives Gojira merch package following Jamey Jasta beef

ABC/Randy HolmesFollowing the CHVRCHESJamey Jasta beef, the synth-pop trio has ended up with a “crap ton” of Gojira t-shirts.

To back up a bit, you may remember that last month, Hatebreed frontman Jasta took issue with CHVRCHES being billed over Gojira on the lineup for the upcoming Dia de los Deftones festival.

“Who is churches with a v and why the f*** are they playing over Gojira get tha f*** outtta here,” Jasta tweeted.

“You’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offense,” he continued. “God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes.”

CHVRCHES frontwoman Lauren Mayberry then responded by saying, “I think it’s important and powerful that [Deftones] promote the idea of a diverse community and try to bridge gaps instead of being guided by limiting, antiquated ideas about genre.”

Social media largely sided with Mayberry, and as she now tells NME that Gojira themselves sent CHVRCHES a token of appreciation.

“I thought it was really cool because it just showed that kind of thinking in the metal community isn’t stood for any more,” Mayberry says. “And Gojira actually sent us a merch package so we got a crap ton of Gojira t-shirts. That was really nice. It reflects the community and informs the community.”

Dia de los Deftones, which will also feature performances from rappers Megan Thee Stallion and JPEGMAFIA, takes place November 2 in San Diego.
