Trent Reznor nominated for CMA Award thanks to “Old Town Road”

CMA Trent Reznor can now add “Country Music Award nominee” to his list of accomplishments — thanks to “Old Town Road.”

Lil Nas X‘s viral hit, featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, is up for Musical Event of the Year at the 53rd annual Country Music Association Awards, which is country music’s most prestigious award show. Since the track samples the 2008 Nine Inch Nails song “34 Ghost IV,” Reznor and band mate Atticus Ross are listed as producers, thus making them eligible for the prize.

Reznor and Ross are also listed as co-writers on “Old Town Road,” which ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-breaking 19 weeks. The track gave Reznor his first number-one Hot 100 hit.

The 2019 CMAs air Wednesday, November 13 on ABC.
