Simple Creatures tease “surprises” on second EP, “Everything Opposite”

Credit: Matty VogelAfter dropping their debut EP Strange Love earlier this year, Simple Creatures aren’t done with new music. The duo, made up of Blink-182‘s Mark Hoppus and All Time Low‘s Alex Gaskarth, will release another EP, titled Everything Opposite, October 11.

Speaking to ABC Radio, Gaskarth explains that Everything Opposite, much like Strange Love, goes “in a lot of different directions” genre-wise.

“There are songs for EP2 that we wrote at the same time that we were writing the songs that ended up on EP1, so there’s definitely some connection,” Gaskarth says. “I think it all feels like it lives in the same world.”

He adds, though, that Everything Opposite will “definitely” include “some new surprises on it, for sure.”

Everything Opposite, which features the new songs “Special” and “Thanks, I Hate It,” will arrive just seven months after Strange Love dropped in March. Garskarth feels that the Simple Creatures project gives him and Hoppus more leeway than the usual music industry schedule.

“I think one of the coolest things about this project is that we can really stay mobile with it,” Gaskarth says. “We’re sort of not beholden to the traditional release schedules that maybe our other bands are.”

“We want to be able to write a song and put out the next week, if we feel like it,” he adds.
