A Day to Remember‘s next album will be called You’re Welcome, and, as it turns out, that title has a unique backstory that involves a trip to Mexico, a hoodie and a serendipitous fan comment.
Speaking to Kerrang!, frontman Jeremy McKinnon recalls that it all started when A Day to Remember was about to play a show in Mexico earlier this year, their first live date after a brief break. As he was putting his outfit together for the performance, McKinnon came to the realization that he needed a white hoodie to complete the ensemble.
“So I went to the store and bought a white hoodie, and it said in red, ‘You’re Welcome,’ and the color matched my shoes that I was wearing,” McKinnon explains. “I was like, ‘Oh, this is perfect!'”
The story doesn’t end there, though. McKinnon then wore the hoodie for the show, and a photo of him sporting the top began circulating online. That’s when some fan-made inspiration came in.
“The first comment said, ‘Calling it now: the new A Day to Remember album is called You’re Welcome!'” McKinnon remembers. “And because I read it online, completely unguarded, it kind of hit me, like I was told the A Day to Remember record name for the first time.”
“I sat there, and it kind of had me stunned,” he laughs. “I was like, ‘I think I f***ing love that.’ So it was named by a fan.”
You’re Welcome, the follow-up to 2016’s Bad Vibrations, is due out later this year. It features the new single “Degenerates.”
