Tool drummer hopes to record another album: “We have tons of material”

Credit: Travis ShinnTool finally released their new album Fear Inoculum, their first in 13 years, in August — but it’s apparently already time to start speculating about the next record.

In an interview with Metal Hammer, drummer Danny Carey says “it’s hard to say” what the future of Tool holds, but he does hope to “get in and knock out another record.”

“We have tons of material,” Carey reveals. “It’s not going to take 12 years, or if it does, I’ll probably be so old I probably can’t pick up my sticks any more! But my hope is we’ll do another record and just keep moving forward.”

Carey adds that because Tool’s record contract is now complete with the release of Fear Inoculum, the band might feel some extra “motivation” to return to the studio.

“The carrot on the stick has gotten larger because now we’ll be free agents,” he says. “We don’t have to deal with a record company or, if we do, we deal with it on our terms, because we can do whatever we want now.”

In the meantime, you can occupy yourself by listening to all 86 minutes of Fear Inoculum, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. You can also catch Tool on their upcoming headlining tour, which kicks off October 15 in Denver.
