Dee Snider: Metallica, AC/DC, G N’ R or Foo Fighters are better Super Bowl halftime choices than J-Lo

ABC/Randy HolmesIf you’re a football fan, you’ve probably noticed that most of the music played during NFL games is of the hard rock or heavy metal variety.  You may have also noticed that hard rock or heavy metal bands never perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.  Well, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider is now calling the NFL out over the discrepancy.

Following the news that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are doing the halftime show at the 2020 Super Bowl in Miami, Dee wrote on Twitter, “WTF!? @shakira and @jlo for this year’s @nfl halftime show!? Once again the great heavy music that rocks the stadiums week after week, game after game is completely ignored. I guess we don’t shake our a** enough!!”

“My point about this years @NFL halftime show isn’t a slight on @shakira or @JLo,” Snider was quick to clarify. “it’s frustration that week after week rock is the go to music during games but gets no respect when it comes to the Super Bowl! And I don’t think I’m popular enough for that slot. But @Metallica…”

“What about @acdc? What about @gunsnroses? What about @foofighters? Any of [these] bands would bring any house down!” he continued.

This past February, Dee made a similar point, tweeting, “Hey @NFL! Your go-to songs at EVERY game are metal: Enter Sandman, Cum On Feel the Noise, Thunder, Crazy Train, We’re Not Gonna Take It, We Are the Champions, Final Countdown, I Wanna Rock, We Will Rock You, Welcome to Jungle. NONE of those bands have EVER played half-time show!”

While rockers have performed at half time — ZZ Top, The Who, U2, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slash, Bruce Springsteen and Aerosmith — no 100% hard rock or metal act has ever headlined.
