Aerosmith to be honored as the 2020 MusiCares Person of the Year

The Boston rockers will be celebrated at a star-studded tribute event held January 24, two nights before the 62nd Grammy Awards. The annual Person of the Year gala benefits the MusiCares Foundation, which provides medical, financial and personal assistance to in-need music community members.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are being recognized for their career achievements and philanthropic efforts, including singer Steven Tyler‘s Janie’s Fund, which helps young women who have experienced abuse and neglect.  The band members are also longtime supporters of MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy.

Tyler shared the news with fans during Aerosmith’s “Deuces Are Wild” Las Vegas residency show on Thursday. You can check out a video of the announcement at the Recording Academy’s official YouTube channel.

In addition, the band posted a message on its social media sites that reads, “We are beyond thrilled to celebrate this honor with MusiCares, the @RecordingAcademy and our fans at the 30th annual Person of the Year gala January 24, 2020!”

Deborah Dugan, president and CEO of MusiCares and the Recording Academy, says in a statement, “Aerosmith has walked the walk when it comes to raising funds to impact music people in recovery. It is sure to be an amazing evening.”

During the event, a variety of artists across a variety of musical genres will perform Aerosmith songs. The gala also features a dinner and a silent auction offering VIP experiences, celebrity memorabilia and more.
