Credit: Travis ShinnLast week, Billboard launched a fan poll asking who you’d want to see sing the national anthem at the 2020 Super Bowl, and Disturbed frontman David Draiman is throwing his hat into the ring.
Over the weekend, Disturbed shared a tweet asking fans to vote for Draiman in the poll, which you can do by typing the metal singer’s name in the “Other” option. “Let’s stir it up,” the band tweeted.
While Draiman may not be an obvious choice to sing the anthem, Disturbed’s music has popped up in more unexpected places, thanks to their 2015 hit cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound of Silence,” which has been used in Dancing with the Stars and in Olympic figure skating routines.
One person who’s likely rooting for Draiman is Twisted Sister‘s Dee Snider, who caused a stir online two weeks ago after criticizing the NFL for booking Jennifer Lopez and Shakira for the Super Bowl halftime show instead of a heavy rock act.
“Once again the great heavy music that rocks the stadiums week after week, game after game is completely ignored,” Snider wrote.
In addition to the “Other” option, the poll offers 15 named options, including big names such as Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars and Post Malone. As of Monday afternoon, the leader is Panic! at the Disco‘s Brendon Urie, who’s claimed nearly 40 percent of the vote.
Lana Del Rey is in second with 33.6 percent, followed by Barbra Streisand with 11.7 percent. “Other” is in fourth place with just over three percent of the vote.
The 2020 Super Bowl takes place February 2 in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
