Amy Lee shares Evanescence album update: “We definitely have a great start”

Credit: P.R. BrownEvanescence frontwoman Amy Lee has shared a new update on the band’s next album, their first collection of original material in nearly a decade.

“We definitely have a great start and we’re planning on having the album done at some point next year,” Lee tells Kerrang!

“We don’t have it down to a month, but we’re working on it,” she adds. “We’re writing and touring and it feels good to have multiple things going on at once.”

That includes an upcoming European tour with Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation next spring, and a new cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “The Chain” for the new Gears 5 video game.

“It’s fun,” Lee says. “You’ve got to keep it fresh: don’t let your mind get stale or bored.”

Evanescence’s most recent release is 2017’s Synthesis, which featured reworked versions of songs from throughout the band’s catalog, recorded with electronic and orchestral elements. Their last all-original album was 2011’s Evanescence.
