Soundgarden, Dave Matthews Band, Nine Inch Nails & more among Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees for 2020

The other nominees include classic rock acts The Doobie Brothers, Pat BenatarTodd Rundgren and T.Rex, as well as legendary vocalist Whitney Houston, rap icon The Notorious B.I.G, influential proto-punk band MC5, electronic pioneers Kraftwerk, and funk group Rufus featuring Chaka Khan.

Artists need to have released their first “commercial recording” at least 25 years before the year of their nomination to be eligible.

Soundgarden, who’s been eligible since 2011, is being nominated for the first time, as are DMB, Motörhead, Thin Lizzy, T.Rex, Benatar, Notorious B.I.G. and Houston. None of those artists are being nominated in their first year of eligibility, except for Biggie.

Nine Inch Nails has previously been on the ballot twice but hasn’t appeared on the list since 2016. Priest has been nominated once, in 2018.

The inductees, which are chosen by a body of 1,000 artists, historians and music industry members, will be revealed in January 2020. As with previous years, one ballot will by comprised of the top five artists chosen by the Rock Hall Fan Vote, which is open now through January 10.

The 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place May 2 in Cleveland, Ohio.
