Rainy forecast forces MLB to postpone Game Four of the ALCS

33ft/iStock(NEW YORK) — With heavy rains in the forecast, Major League Baseball has postponed Game Four of the American League Championship Series between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees.

The game was scheduled to be played at Yankee Stadium at 8:08pm on Wednesday. Now, Game Four will be pushed back to the same time on Thursday night, with Game Five moved to Friday.

Originally, the teams were scheduled to have an off day on Friday, with the series moving back to Houston for Game Six.

“It gives everybody a day off and an opportunity to collect ourselves,” Houston manager AJ Hinch said Wednesday, adding that “it changes our pitching a little bit.”

The Astros may not be able to use each of their three strongest starting pitchers — Zack Greinke, Justin Verlander and Gerritt Cole — on regular rest.

The last Major League Baseball postseason game to be postponed was Game Four of the 2017 NLDS between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals.

Greinke will face Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka in the rescheduled Game Four. That matchup is a rematch from Game One, which New York won 7-0.

Houston leads the series 2-1. The winner of the ALCS will face the Washington Nationals in the World Series.
