Loma Vista RecordingsMarilyn Manson has released a cover of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” a traditional folk song famously performed by Johnny Cash.
The track, which is available now for digital download, is accompanied by a black-and-white video featuring the Antichrist Superstar walking through a field of crosses, digging a grave and wielding a shotgun. You can watch it now on YouTube.
“God’s Gonna Cut You Down” continues Manson’s recent streak of cover songs, following his collaboration with Rob Zombie on The Beatles‘ “Helter Skelter,” and his take on “Cry Little Sister” from The Lost Boys.
A 1949 recording of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” provided the basis for Moby‘s song “Run On.”
Manson’s most recent album is 2017’s Heaven Upside Down.
