Slipknot marks fifth anniversary of ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ with alternate album artwork

ABC/Randy HolmesSlipknot‘s 2014 album .5: The Gray Chapter celebrated its fifth anniversary on Monday, and to mark the occasion, the masked metallers have shared alternate artwork for the record’s cover.

The original cover featured a person wearing a skin-tight skeleton outfit while posing against a wooden fence. The alternate artwork keeps the same basic idea, but plays more with light and shadow and also features a few more, explicit elements.

“This cover was a strong contender for the final album artwork,” says percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan of the alternate design. “[It] represents where my head was at during the making of this album.”

.5: The Gray Chapter was Slipknot’s first album without founding members Paul Gray, who died in 2010, and Joey Jordison, who parted ways with the band in 2013. The album’s title is a tribute to Gray.

Slipknot’s latest album, We Are Not Your Kind, was released this past August.
