R.E.M. nominated for Songwriters Hall of Fame

Courtesy Songwriters Hall of FameR.E.M. is among the 24 music acts that have been nominated for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020.

All four members of seminal alt-rock group — vocalist Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry — are nominated in the Performing Songwriters category.

Other nominees include Journey, Patti Smith, Steve Miller, The Beach Boys‘ Mike Love, Mariah Carey, The Isley Brothers, and rap duo OutKast.

Of the 24 nominees, six artists will ultimately be inducted into the Hall during a gala ceremony in New York City on June 11, 2020. Voting on the finalists will continue until mid-December.

To be eligible, you have to have written your first hit at least 20 years ago.
