Metallica’s ‘Black Album’ passes 550 weeks on ‘Billboard’ 200

Blackened RecordingsMetallica continues to make history on the Billboard 200.

The metal legends’ gigantic 1991 self-titled effort, commonly referred to as the Black Album, has passed a historic 550 weeks on the ranking.

Only three other albums have hit the 550-week milestone in the history of the Billboard 200. Pink Floyd‘s The Dark Side of the Moon is the clear record-holder, with a total of 945 weeks, while Bob Marley and The Wailers‘ best-of collection, Legend, and Journey‘s Greatest Hits have tallied 603 and 593 weeks, respectively.

With singles including “Enter Sandman,” “Nothing Else Matters” and “Wherever I May Roam,” the Black Album catapulted Metallica from metal heroes to world-conquering rock gods. The diamond-certified record is easily Metallica’s best-selling release, having sold over 16 million copies in the U.S.

Metallica’s most recent album is 2016’s Hardwired…to Self-Destruct.
