Aerosmith to perform at their Person of the Year tribute, but will drummer Joey Kramer be there?

Credit: Zack WhitfordAerosmith will be honored this Friday as the MusiCares Person of the Year at a star-studded concert event in Los Angeles, and the band itself has just been added to the gala’s performance lineup.  However, it appears that one of the famous band’s members won’t be playing with the group that night.

Drummer Joey Kramer has sued his fellow Aerosmith band mates because, allegedly, they won’t allow him to perform with them.

As TMZ reported earlier today, Kramer’s suit claims that the rest of Aerosmith decided that he wasn’t “able to play at an appropriate level” after injuring himself last year.

In a new statement from Kramer obtained by Rolling Stone, the rocker says of the lawsuit, “This is not about money. I am being deprived of the opportunity to be recognized along with my peers for our collective lifetime contributions to the music industry. Neither the MusiCares’ Person of the Year Award nor the Grammys’ Lifetime Achievement honors can ever be repeated.”

The statement seems to imply that Kramer won’t be performing with Aerosmith at either the MusiCares event or during the band’s scheduled appearance at the Grammy Awards ceremony this Sunday.

Other artists who have been newly added to the MusiCares Person of the Year gala include Melissa Etheridge, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, Jessie J and Kesha, while comic Russell Brand will serve as the evening’s emcee.

They join the previously announced performers Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Sammy Hagar, Foo Fighters, Johnny Depp, John Mayer, John Legend, Gary Clark Jr., Jonas Brothers, Gavin Degraw, Luis Fonsi and LeAnn Rimes, among others.

The event will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
