Foo Fighters mark 25th anniversary of first show

Credit: Brantley GutierrezOn February 19, 1995 — 25 years ago today — Foo Fighters played their first show. To mark the occasion, frontman Dave Grohl is sharing his thoughts on that historic day in Seattle.

“There is a moment in every band’s history when you decide it’s time to load the gear out of the practice space and bring the music to the people for the first time,” Grohl writes. “This was ours, 25 years ago today.”

“[Twenty-five] years later, the fear and stage fright may have faded, but the love of making music with my friends is stronger than ever,” he continues. “Happy anniversary, fellas.”

The statement is also accompanied by a photo from that first gig, featuring a very young-looking Grohl and bassist Nate Mendel.

The Foos will celebrated their 25th anniversary on their upcoming Van Tour, kicking off April 12 in Phoenix. The outing will hit the same cities that the band played on their first tour back in 1995.
