Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ ‘Watchmen’ SXSW panel canceled due to coronavirus concerns

The Null CorporationTrent Reznor and Atticus Ross‘ keynote talk at this year’s South by Southwest festival has been canceled due to concerns over the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The Nine Inch Nails band mates were scheduled to discuss their score of HBO’s Watchmen in a panel with the series’ creator, writer and executive producer Damon Lindelof.

On Thursday, HBO’s parent company WarnerMedia tweeted, “As a precaution, WarnerMedia has decided it best not to move forward with activations at SXSW. We look forward to seeing everyone in Austin next year.”

“We’re sorry we won’t be giving our Watchmen keynote at SXSW this year (because we had some surprises in store!),” Reznor and Ross tweeted. “However, it was the right decision. We will see you soon — be safe and smart.”

SXSW 2020 is scheduled for March 13-22 in Austin, Texas, and, as of Thursday afternoon, the festival is still a go. In a statement released this past Monday, organizers shared that they are “working closely on a daily basis with local, state, and federal agencies to plan for a safe event.”

“As a result of this dialogue and the recommendations of Austin Public Health, we are proceeding with the 2020 event with the health and safety of our attendees, staff, and volunteers as our top priority,” the statement reads.
