Gigaton, the 11th studio effort from the grunge giants and their first since 2013’s Lighting Bolt, is out today.
“Making this record was a long journey,” says guitarist Mike McCready. “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption.”
“Collaborating with my band mates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times,” he adds.
Gigaton includes the Talking Heads-esque lead single “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” the driving “Superblood Wolfmoon,” and the Donald Trump-blasting “Quick Escape.” The politics of the album are also evident in its cover artwork, which is a photograph of melting ice caps in Norway. The title Gigaton refers to the unit of scientists use to measure the loss of ice from ice sheets.
Pearl Jam is supposed to currently be in the middle of U.S. tour in support of Gigaton, but the outing was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
