Twenty One Pilots’ Tyler Joseph is “writing a record right now”

<Sound the alarm: a new Twenty One Pilots album is coming.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music, frontman Tyler Joseph reveals he’s “writing a record right now” while in quarantine.

“I’m not sure when it’ll be released, but it’s definitely going to be really sooner than we were planning on releasing a record,” he says.

Twenty One Pilots’ most recent effort is 2018’s Trench, which spawned the singles “Jumpsuit,” “The Hype,” “My Blood” and “Chlorine.” Joseph explains that, at the moment, he’s unsure whether the new album will build on the narrative established by Trench, or whether it will be an “in-between record.”

“It’s kind of hard for me to tap into the story of Trench and what we’ve been building on up until that point without being out there, without touring, without having those live shows, without interacting with our fans,” Joseph says.

“As much as I appreciate everyone getting on their computer and playing acoustic bedroom versions of stuff, it’s old to me,” he adds. “I don’t want to just do that. I want to talk to our fans through a record. That’s what I’m currently working on.”

Twenty One Pilots released a new single called “Level of Concern” in April. The track has already reached number one on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart.
