According to Deadline, a biopic about the late Motörhead is in the works, directed by Greg Olliver, who also directed the 2010 documentary Lemmy. The new film will explore the “Ace of Spades” rocker’s life, from growing up in Stoke-on-Trent in England and through the creation of Motörhead, while also touching on his time as Jimi Hendrix‘s roadie and joining the band Hawkwind.
“Everything you’ve heard about Lemmy is probably true…not because he was embracing rock n’ roll clichés, but because he was creating them,” says Olliver.
“Marlboro Reds and Jack Daniel’s for breakfast, speed for dinner — all true,” the director continues. “But behind that steely-eyed facade of rock n’ roll was also a compelling, complicated and lion-hearted man who stayed the course and never gave up playing the music that made him happy.”
According to Olliver, the biopic has been in the works since 2013. He adds that he’s dedicated to making sure that the film will “stay true to Lemmy, Motörhead band members Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, and all the other folks that played important roles in Lemmy’s life.”
“This will be a film they’ll be proud of,” Olliver says.
The movie, which is currently titled Lemmy, is set to start production in 2021, barring any COVID-19-related setbacks.
Lemmy died December 2015 at age 70.
