Kurt Cobain’s guitar fetches $6 mil at auction

Julien’s AuctionsIn a record breaking sale, the guitar Kurt Cobain used for Nirvana‘s 1993 MTV Unplugged performance sold for just over $6 million. 

The guitar was used by Cobain just five months before his tragic death.

The bidding for the 1959 Martin D-18E the late rocker used started at $1 million before ultimately being won by Rode Microphones founder Peter Freedman in Julien’s Auctions “Music Icons” auction. 

The site noted that “Nirvana’s acoustic performance that night “produced one of the greatest live albums of all time MTV Unplugged in New York,” adding that “cuts from the album would go on to become the most celebrated and defining versions of Nirvana’s songs.”

A day earlier, as part of the same auction, Prince‘s 1984 “Blue Angel” Cloud 2 electric guitar sold for $563,500.
