Ex-Black Veil Brides bassist Ashley Purdy responds following allegations of sexual abuse

Joey Foley/Getty ImagesFormer Black Veil Brides bassist Ashley Purdy has issued a statement denying allegations of sexual and emotional abuse.

Over the past week, multiple women on social media accused Purdy of alleged predatory behavior — including pressuring underage girls to use drugs and alcohol, and non-consensual and coerced sexual encounters — as well as verbally abusive behavior. The posts are tagged with the hashtag #AshleyPurdy.

In response to the allegations, Purdy, who parted ways with Black Veil Brides in November 2019, writes, “I am aware of certain derogatory statements being made on social media about my character.”

“I sincerely believe that every woman has a right to be heard, trusted and respected,” he says. “However, these statements have been worsening over time and I can assure you many false allegations have been made.”

Purdy adds that he’s “mortified” by the allegations, and that he feels he has “no choice but to proceed with legal action to quickly bring the truth to light.”

“I am asking all my friends and fans to be patient and reserve judgement as my attorneys work to clear my name,” Purdy writes. “Until then, I hope that everyone stays safe and knows I am doing everything possible to quickly and responsibly resolve this situation.”

After the allegations against Purdy broke, Black Veil Brides tweeted, “We have been informed of the allegations against a former member of our band and we want to make it clear that we do not condone the type of abhorrent behavior that’s been described.”

“We are committed to creating a safe community for our fans and advancing a culture in which abuse of any kind is not tolerated,” the band added. Black Veil also shared Joyful Heart Foundation as a resource for those affected by sexual assault, domestic violence or child abuse.
