Dude ranch: Mark Hoppus rescues struggling deer from lake

Tim Mosenfelder/Getty ImagesA lot’s going on in the world right now, and for Mark Hoppus, that also includes rescuing a deer from nearly drowning.

As the Blink-182 vocalist/bassist explains, he spotted a deer frantically trying to swim in the Redfish Lake in Idaho.

“Found a deer in the MIDDLE OF THE LAKE today,” Hoppus writes in an Instagram post. “No idea how it got there. It was panicked, shivering, panting, tired, swimming in circles.”

Hoppus explains that he was able to pull up next to the deer in a boat. “I was able to get my arms around the bottom of its neck and tried to pull it up but it was too heavy,” he says.

Instead, Hoppus “slowly shepherded” the deer across the lake until they got to shore.

“We got there and the deer stumbled out of the water, looked back at us for a few seconds, and bounded off into the woods,” he writes. “We saved a deer today!!”

No wonder Blink’s been named PETA’s Most Animal-Friendly Band.
