Tim Mosenfelder/Getty ImagesDream Theater guitarist John Petrucci is releasing a new solo album, and he’s recruited an old friend for the project.
Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who co-founded the prog-metal group alongside Petrucci and bassist John Myung, will man the kit on the record, which is titled Terminal Velocity.
The album marks the first time Petrucci and Portnoy have collaborated since the drummer left Dream Theater back in 2010.
Terminal Velocity is expected to be released sometime later this year. It’s Petrucci’s first solo effort since 2005’s Suspended Animation.
