Reprise RecordsDisturbed has premiered a cover of the Sting single “If I Ever Lose My Faith in You.”
The track starts off as a dramatic ballad — similar to Disturbed’s hit cover of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound of Silence” — before the heavy metal guitars drop in toward the middle, along with frontman David Draiman‘s aggressive vocals.
“We have loved this song for a long time,” Disturbed says. “Even though it was released in 1993, it seems strangely applicable to today’s world.”
The band continues, “The song is about losing faith, and might initially sound pessimistic, but it’s about the importance and power of personal relationships, and how they can save you and provide solace in an increasingly confusing world.”
You can download Disturbed’s version of “If I Ever Lose My Faith in You” now via digital outlets. The cover is also accompanied by a video, now streaming on YouTube, which seems to make brief references to the original’s medieval carnival-themed clip, albeit in a more serious tone.
In related news, Disturbed has released a deluxe, 20th anniversary version of the band’s 2000 debut album, The Sickness. The expanded collection, available now on vinyl and digital platforms, includes seven bonus live tracks.
Disturbed had planned to tour the U.S. this past summer to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Sickness, but the outing was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
