Courtney Love’s writing new solo songs; would “love” to work with Hole again

Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagicCourtney Love is London Calling — and writing new music.

In an interview with NME, the Hole frontwoman shares that she’s been working on fresh solo material, as well as finishing her memoir, while living in the U.K. for the past year.

“It’s early days and I’ve recorded several new songs whilst I’ve been in London,” Love says.

“I’ve also taken this time to enjoy rediscovering really good songwriters,” she adds. “[My daughter] Frances [Bean] sends me playlists, which are fantastic and full of artists that I hadn’t come across before too.”

The move to the U.K. has been part of several big changes Love has made over the past couple years in both her personal and creative life.

“I’ve lived here at several points in my life and every time I left the U.K., I’d get sad,” she says. “And on top of that you know, for a while I actually did not pick up my guitar. I stopped having the kind of relationship that you need to have with the guitar to write good guitar songs. So, I came here to focus on writing my book and my record.”

As for Hole, which had been rumored to be reuniting in 2019, Love says that she, bassist Melissa Auf der Maur and drummer Patty Schemel rehearsed together before her return to the U.K., but nothing official is currently in the works.

“We had a good session, but it takes a bit of time to get back into the rhythm of it all,” Love says. “It’s something I’d love to do and [I’ve] been taking guitar lessons over Zoom during lockdown and I’m writing again so we’ll see!”
