Ipecac RecordingsEarlier this year, before COVID-19 hit, the reunited Mr. Bungle played a batch of live concerts in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. As bassist Trevor Dunn tells ABC Audio, the group had even more expansive touring plans in the works in a pre-pandemic world.
“[We were] just starting to plan maybe going to the Midwest or the South or something, doing another handful of shows,” Dunn says. “Maybe do some festivals in Europe or whatever. Of course now we have no idea what’s going on.”
The potential Mr. Bungle itinerary would also have to contend with the touring schedule of vocalist Mike Patton‘s other band, Faith No More, which had planned to hit the road in 2020, as well.
“Everything got pushed, and no one even knows where it got pushed to yet,” Dunn says. “Hopefully at some point, if live shows are possible again — which I think they will be, but it’s just a matter of when — that would be the plan.”
In the meantime, you can listen to Mr. Bungle’s first new album in over 20 years, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo. The effort — which features original members Patton, Dunn and Trey Spruance, plus Anthrax‘s Scott Ian and ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo – is a re-recorded version of the 1986 Bungle demo of the same name.
As for any brand new, original Mr. Bungle music, though, you may have to wait a bit.
“We don’t have any new music,” Dunn says.
