The Hole frontwoman appeared in a number of films in the ’90s, and her performance in the movie The People vs. Larry Flynt earned her a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination. However, she’s mostly stopped acting since the beginning of the 2000s, save for a few indie films and TV roles.
In an Instagram post accompanying a photo of her at the Globes when she was nominated, Love writes, “I love acting. I stopped being capable of it after a bunch of #MeToos.”
“No one would believe me, and it wouldn’t stop,” Love shares. “So I left, and it left. And I’m good with it.”
“Maybe, in my next life I’ll be stronger & able to endure it,” she adds. “I tip my hat to those who can.
It was super fun though.”
Notably, Love publicly referenced rumors of Harvey Weinstein‘s sexual misconduct prior to the wave of allegations against the disgraced movie mogul that came in 2017. In a 2005 interview, Love warned young actresses, “If Harvey Weinstein invites you to a private party in the Four Seasons [hotel], don’t go.”
When the interview resurfaced as the allegations against Weinstein were being reported, Love tweeted, “Although I wasn’t one of his victims, I was eternally banned by [talent agency] CAA for speaking out against #HarveyWeinstein.”
