Expanded edition of Nirvana's 'MTV Unplugged' in New York City coming on vinyl

UMeNovember 1, 1994 saw the release of what Rolling Stone once called one of the 10 best live albums of all time: Nirvana‘s MTV Unplugged in New York. On November 1, 2019 — 25 years later to the day — an expanded version of the album will arrive on vinyl.

The album has expanded to include five rehearsal performances that were previously only available on DVD, including run-throughs of “Come As You Are” and the David Bowie cover “The Man Who Sold the World.” The double-LP set comes in a gatefold jacket with anniversary silver foil detail. Black vinyl will be available everywhere; a limited-edition colored vinyl version will be available at Nirvana.com.

Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged episode originally aired on MTV in December of 1993, and in addition to their own material, Kurt Cobain and company performed covers by The Vaselines, Lead Belly and the Meat Puppets, in addition to the Bowie tune.

The MTV Unplugged in New York album was the first Nirvana album released after Kurt Cobain’s death. It debuted at number one, won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, and went on sell more than five million copies.
