Chad Smith dishes on new Ozzy Osbourne album: “Everyone wants to bring it for Ozzy”

Epic RecordsOzzy Osbourne will release a new solo album, Ordinary Man, next year.  And if that’s not exciting enough, the record was recorded with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan.

Speaking to Billboard, Smith reveals he joined the project after playing on the recording sessions for “Take What You Want,” Ozzy’s collaboration with Post Malone and Travis Scott.

“He had such a great time and sounded so good, we were like, ‘What the hell, let’s write some songs for Ozzy and record some s*** for Ozzy and see if he likes it. Ozzy needs to do music,'” Smith explains. “So we did and we played it for him, and he loved it.”

“He got inspired,” the drummer adds of Osbourne. “He was coming in every day and singing and getting better and having a great time. And he was like, ‘Omigod, you work so fast! I f***ing love this!'”

Smith brought his friend McKagan on board, and the album also includes contributions from Slash, Tom Morello and Elton John. Because they were playing for the Prince of Darkness, Smith says everyone involved upped their game.

“Everyone wants to bring it for Ozzy, ’cause he deserves it,” Smith shares.

“It’s performances, not chopped-up, modern s***,” he adds. “It’s a f***ing good rock album. I’m just honored to be part of it and I can’t wait for it to come out ’cause I think people are just gonna dig it.”

Ordinary Man, the follow-up to 2010’s Scream, is due out early 2020.
