Listen to System of a Down’s Serj Tankian sing “Game of Thrones” song “The Rains of Castamere”

WaterTower Music System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has recorded his take on Game of Thrones song “The Rains of Castamere,” included on the soundtrack for the HBO fantasy epic’s final season, which concluded Sunday night.

In the books on which Game of Thrones is based, “The Rains of Castamere” is a folk song that tells the story of Tywin Lannister’s military victory over the rebelling House Reyne of Castamere. It came up multiple times in the show, perhaps most famously during the season three episode “The Rains of Castamere,” aka the “Red Wedding” episode.

Tankian recorded his version in collaboration with Game of Thrones series composer Ramin Djawadi.

The Game of Thrones season eight soundtrack is out now on digital outlets. It’ll be available as a double CD on July 19. A vinyl release is also forthcoming.
