Watch Foo Fighters invite Gene Simmons on stage during Las Vegas concert

Dave Grohl & Gene Simmons in 2015; Michael Tran/FilmMagic

KISSGene Simmons showed up on stage while Foo Fighters were rocking and rolling all nite during a recent concert in Las Vegas.

During the show, guitarist Chris Shiflett started playing the riff to a KISS song when Dave Grohl interrupted him to reveal that Simmons was actually backstage.

“We can’t do that in front of Gene Simmons!” Grohl said. He then started begging Simmons to come on stage and show the crowd his “punim” — Yiddish for “face.” Simmons finally obliged and walked out briefly while wearing a face mask, and handed Grohl what appeared to be a dollar bill.

“I had posters of that motherf***er on my wall when I was a kid,” Grohl exclaimed as Simmons returned backstage. “Let me rephrase that — I still have posters of Gene Simmons on my f***ing wall at home.”

You can watch fan-shot footage of the interaction streaming now on YouTube.

Simmons also tweeted a video of him palling around with the Foos before the show.

Grohl, by the way, just covered KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Nite” with producer Greg Kurstin for the final night of their Hanukkah Sessions series.

Måneskin keeps fans “Beggin'” with viral cover: “We made it like it was our own song”

ABC

The people sure are “Beggin'” for more Måneskin.

The Italian rockers’ cover of the Four Seasons song has been one of the biggest rock hits of 2021 — it’s this year’s longest-running number-one single on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart, having led the ranking for 10 weeks and counting.

Speaking with ABC Audio, bassist Victoria De Angelis ponders what keeps the fans beggin’ for “Beggin’.”

“I think maybe just the way we reinterpreted it and we made it like it was our own song,” De Angelis says.

“We tried to not think about the original, and just felt free to change it however we liked,” she adds. “I think this shines through the song.”

If you were lucky enough to catch one of Måneskin’s sold-out, debut U.S. headlining shows in New York City and Los Angeles over the fall, you would’ve also heard one of the band’s other covers: a mash-up of Franz Ferdinand‘s “Take Me Out” and The Killers‘ “Somebody Told Me.”

“I think it’s fun to give different interpretations to a song that already exists,” De Angelis says of Måneskin’s penchant for covers. “It’s just a way of sharing the music.”

Of course, Måneskin writes originals, too. Their latest single, “MAMMAMIA,” is very much not a cover of the ABBA song, though judging by its video’s over 14 million YouTube views, it’s following in the viral footsteps of “Beggin.'”

“We couldn’t wait to release new music with all of this big new audience that we have,” De Angelis says of premiering “MAMMAMIA.”

“Of course, it’s the most important thing for us to share the music that we’re writing,” she continues. “So every time that we release a song, it’s a very, very important moment.”

Unreleased Trent Reznor & Danny Elfman collaboration included on upcoming box set

ABC

A previously unreleased collaboration between Nine Inch NailsTrent Reznor and film composer Danny Elfman is included in the upcoming deluxe collector’s edition of the latter’s album Big Mess.

The box set, which is due out in February 2022, includes a new version of the Big Mess song “Native Intelligence,” with vocals by Reznor.

You’ll also find a collaboration with FEVER 333 on the song “Kick Me.”

Only 1,500 copies of the box set will be made. You can pre-order yours now via DannyElfmanBigMess.com.

Reznor and Elfman previously linked up for a duet for another Big Mess tune, title “True.” That was released this past August.

We can only assume that the recording sessions between Reznor and Elfman included a lot of movie talk, since they’re both Oscar-nominated film composers. However, Reznor has Elfman beat when it comes to wins — Trent’s won two with his scoring partner and NIN band mate Atticus Ross, for The Social Network and Soul, while Danny’s been nominated four times but has yet to go home with a trophy.

Listen to new Underoath song, “Numb”

Underoath has released a new song called “Numb,” a track from the band’s upcoming album, Voyeurist.

You can download “Numb,” which spotlights the vocals of drummer/singer Aaron Gillespie, now via digital outlets.

“‘Numb’ feels like a classic They’re Only Chasing Safety song done with adult minds and ideas,” says guitarist Tim McTague, referring to Underoath’s 2004 album.

“It’s the only chorus on [Voyeurist] that is just Aaron singing, which was a massive part of our DNA as a band in the beginning,” he adds. “It’s rad to hear it come full circle.”

Voyeurist, the follow-up to 2018’s Erase Me, is due out January 14, 2022. Underoath previewed the album during a streaming concert earlier this month.

Ohio’s Alrosa Villa venue, site of “Dimebag” Darrell’s murder, now demolished

The Alrosa Villa music venue in Columbus, Ohio, the site of late Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott‘s murder in 2004, has now been demolished.

A fan posted footage of the remaining rubble in a YouTube video Tuesday, December 7. Today, December 8, marks the 17th anniversary of Dime’s death.

Dime had been playing Alrosa Villa with his band Damageplan on the night of December 8, 2004, when a man stormed the stage and shot him to death. Three other people were also killed, along with the gunman.

While Alrosa Villa is no more, the land it stood on will soon serve a new purpose as the site of an affordable housing project. As Columbus ABC affiliate WSYX reports, city and state leaders held a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for construction on the development last month.

Scheduled to open in 2023, the complex will include 180 units with rent as low as $350 a month.
