Watch The Killers pay tribute to Ric Ocasek with cover of The Cars’ “My Best Friend’s Girl”

ABC/Randy HolmesThe Killers paid tribute to the late Ric Ocasek during their show in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Thursday with a cover of The Cars’ hit “My Best Friend’s Girl.”

Brandon Flowers and company pulled out the cover in the middle of a performance of the Hot Fuss track “All These Things That I’ve Done.” You can watch fan-shot footage of the tribute streaming now on YouTube.

Flowers, whose sound owes more than a thing or two to Ocasek and The Cars, inducted the new wave legends into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Following Ocasek’s death this past weekend, Flowers wrote, “Feeling grateful for Ric…My first king. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

In addition to his work with The Cars, Ocasek was well-known as producer, working with bands including Weezer, Bad Religion, Bad Brains and No Doubt.
