Mascot Label GroupBlack Stone Cherry has shared a cover of blues icon Son House‘s song “Death Letter Blues.”

The new recording is included on BSC’s upcoming EP Black to Blues, Vol. 2, which features a variety of blues covers.

“We have played a few different versions of this song live for several years,” Black Stone Cherry says of “Death Letter Blues.” “To finally be able to go in the studio and actually record it was an incredible experience and we got to extend the live version and have a lot of fun.”

“Son House is without a doubt one of the most haunting artists of all time, blues or any genre,” the Kentucky rockers add. “We can only hope we did the song and him justice!”

Black to Blues, Vol. 2, which follows 2017’s Vol. 1, will be released November 1. It also includes covers of artists including Robert Johnson, Freddie King, Otis Rush, Howlin’ Wolf and Elmore James.

Black Stone Cherry’s most recent album is 2018’s Family Tree.
