The conversation marks the first time Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Rubin, who produced the Beasties’ classic 1986 debut album Licensed to Ill, have spoken in about 20 years.

“Like most Zoom calls, their reunion gets off to a glitchy start,” a description for the episode reads.

The subsequent, hour-long call is a lot less dramatic than that, with Ad-Rock, band mate Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Rubin falling into a fun, relaxed rapport about hanging out in the future mega-producer’s college dorm room at NYU and the very early days of the Beastie Boys.

The conversation also features filmmaker Spike Jonze, who directed the new Beastie Boys Story documentary.
